Cinekin - a new Movie and Critic rating site moves to open beta.
12/05/2008
Dolphin Micro Inc. was contracted by Promethean Ventures LLC. to create a movie and rating destination site based around Promethean's proprietary movie and critic ratings engine. The service, known as Cinekin, was released as an open beta on December 5th, 2008.
The site was one of the largest projects undertaken by the Dolphin Micro team so far. It features an exciting Web 2.0 front end and large database backend housing information on hundreds of thousands of movies as well as millions of user and movie critic ratings. The project was built in Java using JSPs, Servlets, and Spring driving the site and Hibernate and MySQL handling the data services.
The system uses a sophisticated rating system created by Promethean Ventures to review a user's movie preferences and make recommendations on both movies and movie critics that the person might enjoy. Users also have the convenience of either watching the movies directly on the web or purchasing the DVD through a partnership with Amazon.com and Amazon's Unbox video on demand service.
Planned enhancements include movie message boards, new partnerships allowing members to rent DVDs and purchase tickets for movies currently in theaters, as well as innovative ways to take the guesswork out of finding a good movie for any occasion.
