The system was built in PHP using a MySQL database to store the polls. Teen Ink staff can enter polls as far into the future as they'd like and the system will take care of displaying the right poll based on a start date field. Once a visitor answers the question, poll results are displayed in real time. A visitor tracking system was also added so each person can only respond to a poll once.
